What is sub- culture?
•In sociology, anthropology and cultural studies, a subculture is a group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong. ...
Gelder further proposed six key ways in which subcultures can be identified:
1.through their often negative relations to work (as 'idle', 'parasitic', at play or at leisure, etc.);
2.through their negative or ambivalent relation to class (since subcultures are not 'class-conscious' and don't conform to traditional class definitions);
3.through their association with territory (the 'street', the 'hood', the club, etc.), rather than property;
4.through their movement out of the home and into non-domestic forms of belonging (i.e. social groups other than the family);
5.through their stylistic ties to excess and exaggeration (with some exceptions);
6.through their refusal of the banalities of ordinary life and massification.
What is 2-tone?
2 Tone (or Two Tone) is a music genre created in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s by fusing elements of ska, punk rock, rocksteady, reggae and pop. It was called 2 Tone because most of the bands were signed to the record label 2 Tone Records at some point.
Why are the specials important in British Music History?
Their music combines a "danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude", and had a "more focused and informed political and social stance" than other ska groups, the specials were a band mixed with black and white members 5 members are white and 2 are black, this created a change in British music as it was the first group to have mixed members.
What is grime?
Grime is a genre of urban music which first emerged in Bow, East London, England in the early 2000s, primarily a development of UK garage, dancehall, and hip hop. Grime is typified by complex 2-step breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute and constructed from "different" sounds. Stylistically, grime takes from many genres including UK Garage, dancehall and hip hop. The lyrics and music combine futuristic electronic elements and dark, guttural bass lines.

Sapphire Research
1. Investigate what was happening in Britan between 1948-1962.
During the years 1948-1962,
As the ship docked at Tilbury on the River Thames in June 1948 its West Indian passengers were greeted by a maelstrom of racism whipped up by the press and right wing politicians.But for many of them this was not their first time in England. The majority of passengers on the Windrush were servicemen and women returning to duty from leave. But the country they had left a short time before was now different. They were no longer part of the “war effort” but were seen as a “threat to the British way of life”. Over 10,000 West Indians volunteered to defend Britain against the Nazis during the Second World War. Among them was Donald Clarke. The RAF veteran was born in British Guyana. He enlisted during the war and served in the West Indies, then signed up for a further 12 years of service in 1948. “Many English people saw a black face and thought we came from Africa, or were black Americans. We felt the British public were not very well informed about us.” Many West Indians were targeted by white US soldiers from the South who were stationed in Britain. They often reacted with violence to finding “coloured limeys” mixing freely with white people in pubs.In one case troops from the West Indies guarding prisoners of war in Egypt were attacked by white South African troops who objected to seeing black men carrying weapons.

3. How did the changing social landscape lead to a 'racialisation' of British politics?

Kidulthood
How much was given to the film for production and distribution? What criteria did the film have to meet to be awarded the funds?
Some of the budget for kidulthood was funded by the uk film council, the uk film council awarded kidulthood £10,000 to help fund for their film. the uk film council also awarded kidulthood £76,295 for the Distribution and Exhibition of the film.
In order for Kidulthood to gain this they have to fill out a form to see if they get granted the funding money, they need to be a british film or have a certain amount of actors to pass, also the setting if it is mostly set in the uk it passes as an british film.

Kidulthood
Why would this film have found it difficult to get finance from a production company?
Kidulthood had a production budget of 600,000 even though the director Menhaj Huda wanted a budget of 800,000. They made the film on the low budget of 600,000. The director found it hard to get finance from a production company, as the film Kidulthood is a social realism film this would have made it hard for them to get money, also the company that help stealth was a new company this also would have made it hard kidulthood was stealth's first film.
However apart from stealth company 2 other companys helped

Editing
This is a Moviol it was the first machine for motion picture editing when it was invented by Iwan Serrurier in 1924.The Moviola allowed editors to study individual shots in their cutting rooms, thus to determine more precisely where the best cut-point might be. The vertically-oriented Moviolas were the standard for film editing in the United States until the 1970s when horizontal flatbed editor systems became more common. The name was derived from the name “Victrola” since Serrurier thought his invention would do for home movie viewing what the Victrola did for home music listening (The Moviola even came in a beautiful wooden cabinet similar to the Victrola's). But since the machine cost $ 600 in 1920 (equivalent to $ 20,000 today), very few sold.Nevertheless, a few very high-profile filmmakers continue to prefer the Moviola. Not least on this list is editor Michael Kahn famous for his work with Steven Spielberg. In fact, given the motion picture industry's accelerating trend toward digitization, Mr. Kahn may have given this classic piece of equipment its last hurrah in 2005 when Spielberg's Munich received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing.
Now at the present day we have digitally advanced film editing. Today most films will be edited on systems such as Imovie or more advanced programmes such as final cut pro. These new decives that are used to edit films are simple and fun to use. As like the Moviola using final cut pro it not a cutting and sticking proccess used by hands, its is all done on a computer which makes it easy to do. Today with the advance in technology, we can use programmes to edit such as,
-Imovie, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Elements, Final Cut Express, Movavi, Xpress Pro, Cyberlink Power Director, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Sony Vegas Pro, Avid Technology, AVS Video Editor and many more, the are a wide range of programmes that can be used to edit, all a range from simple programmes to more advanced for regualr users.
